UPDATE: In light of the evolving situation with COVID-19, YWL has decided to be proactive and made the difficult decision to postpone our Gala currently scheduled for March 25, 2020, to fall 2020.
YWL's Board of Directors is currently confirming the new date with the venue, vendors, and speakers. We will provide you with updated details once they become available. This was a difficult decision, but YWL's first priority is the health and safety of our members, guests, and supporters. On behalf of the YWL Board, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to your continued support for the Gala in the fall.
If you have already purchased a ticket for Gala, that ticket will still be valid for the postponed Gala in the fall. We are also happy to transfer the ticket to another attendee in your place or issue a refund if you are unable to attend on the new date. Please join YWL and The Heller Group for an evening of networking and fun in support of a worthy cause! YWL is thrilled to announce that THE HONOURABLE JUSTICE BEVERLEY MCLACHLIN and lawyer ANNAMARIA ENENAJOR will be speaking in an exciting spotlight conversation at this year’s event.
Justice McLachlin is the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada and one of Canada's most-respected jurists. Justice McLachlin was the first woman to serve as the Chief Justice on Canada's higest court and the longest serving Chief Justice in Canadian history. Prior to her appointment to the bench, Justice McLachlin practised law in Alberta and British Columbia and taught at the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia. Justice McLachlin was appointed to the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1981 and elevated to the British Columbia Court of Appeal in 1985, where she was ultimately appointed Chief Justice. Justince McLachlin joined the Supreme Court of Canada in 1989 and was appointed Chief Justice in 2000. Click here to read her full bio.
Annamaria Enenajor is a partner at Ruby Shiller Enenajor DiGiuseppe, Barristers, where she practices criminal defence, regulatory and constitutional law. In addition to supporting clients through litigation, Annamaria provides comprehensive and strategic advice related to criminal and regulatory law with a focus on Cannabis Act compliance. She is also an outspoken public advocate for cannabis decriminalization and frequently writes, lectures and speaks to the media on this topic. She is the founder and Campaign Director of the Campaign for Cannabis Amnesty and sits on the Board of Directors of the Open Democracy Project. Annamaria was named one of the 50 most influential Torontonians of 2018 by Toronto Life magazine and one of the 32 Women of the Year in 2018 by Chatelaine. Click here to read her full bio.
YWL is excited to announce that the proceeds of this year’s Gala will go to PROBONO ONTARIO, a charitable organization that promotes access to justice in Ontario by creating and facilitating opportunities for lawyers to provide pro bono (free) legal services to low-income people and charitable organizations. The organization’s primary focus is to help low-income people with civil (non-family) legal problems that are not covered by Legal Aid Ontario.
Guests will enjoy an open bar, savoury hors d'oeuvres and delectable desserts, an opportunity to bid on silent auction items and win incredible prizes, and a complimentary swag bag. You don't want to miss this!
